Control where an AI skill appears
Every AI skill is authored in the AI-skills editor in Settings. For the rest of the Playground (the skill rail, the System AI group, the Default effort selector, and the test runner) see Manage AI skills in the Playground. The Where it appears tab controls where a published skill shows up for your users: which surfaces offer it as a launch point, and the conditions under which it is offered. Getting this right means a skill appears exactly where it is useful and stays out of the way everywhere else.
Surfaces
Section titled “Surfaces”Pick the surfaces a skill launches from: for example Business Models (the models list), Business Model (one model’s detail page), Business Domain, Glossary, the Data Vault Canvas, Catalog, or Knowledge. A skill only ever appears on the surfaces you select here, and a page that is not one of these surfaces offers no suggested skills at all.
Selection requirements
Section titled “Selection requirements”A skill can require that the user has something selected before it is offered: a table, an entity, a model, or another object the skill works on. When Selection requirements are set, the skill stays hidden until a matching selection exists, then becomes available. This keeps selection-driven skills (the ones that enrich or analyze a specific object) from appearing when there is nothing for them to act on.
Only show when nothing is selected
Section titled “Only show when nothing is selected”Turn this on to make a skill appear only while the user has not selected anything on the surface. It is useful for “start from scratch” skills, for example Suggest business domains and models, that stop being relevant once a domain, model, or entity is selected. This toggle is disabled while Selection requirements are set, because the two conflict: a skill cannot both require a selection and hide when a selection exists.
Show as a suggested skill
Section titled “Show as a suggested skill”This checkbox, beside Only show when nothing is selected, decides whether the skill is offered as a suggestion on the pages where it is visible. It is checked by default. Uncheck it for a skill that belongs to a button or a conversation rather than to the list of suggestions: the skill disappears from the suggested skills, but it still runs from Ask AI chat (when Available in Ask AI chat is checked) and from any button that launches it. The Preview then reads Not shown as a suggested skill. under the Visible at list.
Several built-in skills ship unchecked for this reason. For example, Draft with AI in a governance panel launches its skill directly, so that skill never needs a suggestion of its own. Check the box again to put a skill back among the suggestions.
