Editing knowledge with AI

You have a knowledge document whose wording is too dense, too sparse, or just reads awkwardly, and you want help improving it without handing full control to the AI. The editing actions in DeltaVault let you do exactly that: you pick the kind of improvement you want, the AI proposes the new text as an inline suggestion, and you go through it change by change before anything is written. Nothing is saved until you decide to save it.

The five actions

Five editing actions are available from the Ask AI panel while you are editing a document:

Action	What it does
Rewrite for clarity	Improves the writing: clearer phrasing, better structure, smoother flow.
Tighten	Makes the text more concise by removing unnecessary words and repetition.
Expand	Adds detail and context to flesh out thin or incomplete passages.
Humanize	Adjusts the tone so the text reads naturally rather than mechanically.
Custom instruction	You type your own instruction and the AI follows it.

All five are read-only: they propose changes to the document text and never alter your business model or catalog. Nothing outside the document body is affected.

The panel lists them alphabetically, alongside Analyze governance coverage, which reads the document rather than editing it. See Governance check for what that one does.

Edit a selection or the whole document

You can target a single passage or let the action work across the full document:

• To target a passage: select the text you want to improve before running the action. The suggestion then covers only what you selected.
• To target the whole document: leave nothing selected. The action works on the entire body.

To run an editing action:

1. Open the document and switch to edit mode.
2. Optionally, select the passage you want to improve.
3. Open the Ask AI panel from the Ask AI button in the top header. While you are editing, the panel shows the five editing actions.
4. Pick the action that matches what you want: Rewrite for clarity, Tighten, Expand, Humanize, or Custom instruction.
5. For Custom instruction, type what you want done into the Your instruction field that appears, for example “rewrite this for a non-technical audience”.
6. Run the action. The AI streams the suggestion directly into the editor as an inline diff.

Review the suggestion

The suggestion appears as an inline diff inside the editor: proposed insertions and deletions are shown in place, colored, alongside the existing text. Nothing has been applied yet.

You can work through the changes one at a time or handle them all at once:

• Each change has inline Accept and Reject controls. Use these to apply or discard individual changes.
• The review band above the editor offers Accept all, Reject all, and Next to move through changes in sequence.

The granularity of the diff depends on how you ran the action. Selection edits are shown at word level, so you see exactly which words are changing. Whole-document edits are shown at line level, giving you a paragraph-by-paragraph view of the proposed changes.

Save or discard

After reviewing the suggestion, nothing has been written to the document until you choose to save it. Two outcomes are possible:

• Save: applies the accepted changes and writes the updated body to the document. Any changes you rejected are discarded.
• Discard: cancels the review entirely and leaves the document body unchanged, as if the action had never run.

You can also run a governance check on a document to cross-reference it against your business entities and category lanes.
